Thermochromic composite based on a ternary polymer blend for temperature-adaptive solar-heat management
A study conducted by Takayuki Hirai, Ko Kugimoto, et al. was published in the ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.
Thermal control materials contribute in reducing energy consumption by air conditioning systems. Conventional solar heaters are effective in reducing heating energy in winter; however, they lead to an increase in cooling energy in summer. Herein, we proposed a novel thermochromic composite that exhibits high solar absorption at low temperatures and high solar reflectance at high temperatures. Notably, the proposed composite offers scalability because it can be fabricated using a simple melt-blending process. In the article, we reported the thermochromic properties of the proposed composite and demonstrated effective solar-heat management under natural sunlight.
