BATTERY AND FUEL CELL

We have to make more effective use of limited energy resources to realize a sustainable future society. Electricity and hydrogen will play a vital role as easy-to-use energy mediums for the efficient use of energy across the whole of society. For example, we can apply the characteristics of electricity and hydrogen to store surplus energy, use it when required, and transport it to where it is needed. Key energy devices in this process include fuel cells, which convert hydrogen energy to electricity, and secondary batteries that store electrical energy.
We are helping to realize a sustainable society through a wide range of approaches, including motor systems for hybrid, electric, and fuel cell vehicles, new materials for batteries and fuel cells, and innovative manufacturing processes.

Research is being carried out into materials for rechargeable batteries, based on experimental analyses and computer simulations. The results have contributed to the use of lithium-ion batteries as power sources for hybrid vehicles.
