”Observation of Bulk-edge Correspondence in Topological Pumping Using an Electric Circuit“ by Kenichi Yatsugi et al., in collaboration with University of Tsukuba, was published in the Communications Physics.

The Nobel prize in physics 2016 was awarded for theoretical discoveries of topological phases of matter. In this article, we have observed the bulk-edge correspondence for the first time using an electric circuit. While localized states near a boundary or an edge (topological edge states) have been experimentally verified in topological matter, topological numbers inside the matter (bulk) are not observables. We successfully verified the correspondence of the topological edge state and the bulk topological number (bulk-edge correspondence) by using a sophisticated approach for analyzing impedance spectra in a coupled-resonators system. Our circuit scheme is a promising platform to provide a crucial understanding of topological phenomena, and opens up the possibility toward functional energy transfer mechanisms.
