Presented at 2023 TRB Annual Meeting
The study “A strategic partnership of mobility services” by Ryosuke Kataoka and Ken Hidaka was selected for presentation at the 2023 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting.
Partnerships between ride-hailing platforms (RHPFs) with charging station operators (CSOs) are attracting attention as a measure for electric vehicle (EV) adoption and charging infrastructure network development. This study provides insights into the rationale for the partnership between RHPFs and CSOs and its benefits for RHPFs, CSOs, consumers, and EV drivers. The impact of the partnership between an RHPF and CSO on the RHPF’s profit, consumer surplus, EV driver surplus, and CSO’s profit was evaluated considering the RHPF market equilibrium. Based on numerical experiments, the partnership resulted in a win-win-win outcome for all stakeholders, i.e., companies (RHPF and CSO), customers, and drivers, making them better off than those who are independent. Additionally, this partnership increased the density of charging stations while reducing the charging fee, potentially resolving the “chicken and egg” problem of EV adoption and charging network development.
